1. get the correct cartridge
2. look at the illustration after you open
3. normally there is a groove on the cartridge for your index finger.Press it down and it will come out.
4 put new cartridge in the slot making sure you DONT touch the circuits screen.
5 once in place, lift the cartridge with index finger and it will snap back into place.
6. test the printer
7. YOU SHOULD HAVE MENTIONED THE MAKE AND MODEL FOR BETTER ANSWER
