Call their bluff, without telling them. Ring social services yourself and say you are both (assuming 2 parents) concerned that the stress of being threatened is getting to you and the children are picking up on it... they will be from about 2 upwards, even if they have never heard you talk about this. Invite them to send a social worker to see you... if they are under 5 & you are in the UK you can make that request to a health visitor, who is more likely to have time. Let him/her meet the children and see them in their home environment. If you get no joy from either of those sources, ask their play-leaders/teachers for a written report. If they say the children are happy and well-cared-for you can stop worrying. Those sort of people know the signs of abuse or neglect.

I would have said the same. Call social services yourself. That's what I did when my son kept threatening to call the cops on me for taking his toys away when he was bad. I called and asked for an officer to come and talk to my son. One came and set him straight. I never got threatened again ;)
