I am looking for an ancestor who came to this country, by his statement, arrived in this country in 1847 from Stockholm, Sweden and lived in New York for several years. Is there qa way to look at all available ships lists by year?

My ancestors name was Charles Elliott. In trying to lean what I can about Swedish research, I have found it said that the Swedish often changed their names. How true is this? I need help?

Start with the controlling authority for the port of arrival . Nothing comes or goes without being recorded in the harbor . The trick is to understand the structure of the authority tree . Then on google try registered passenger ships sailing from Sweden 1847. Then try passenger ships arriving from Sweden  to New York 1847 Try public records for Ellis island New York 1847  Try also Maritime Ship registration  passenger Sweden1847 just enter it in Google just like that.  Records passenger manifests New York port authority arrivals from Sweden 1847 enter this whole sentence  just like it is .                      Bill                         I just did that and was amazed at the amount of stuff there. www.iabsi.com  Good Luck this sounds interesting

    go to ellis Island.
