    I HAVE AN IDEA......!!!!!

We get so many "trash" questions here on this site...I don't believe it is the people asking the questions...I think it is the "thingamajig" on the websites that gets us to be so frustrated with the absolutely stupid questions (in our books anyway). Seems like there should be an answer to this particular t ype of frustration...perhaps elimiating the so-called (whatever, I am not too computer literate) application or whatever it is called that states: "ask a question"...anything would be helpful...I love this site...don't want to see it going downhill..there must be a solution....help Mr. Wizard!!!!!!

Bob & Ole Hipster have a good point. If that green "Ask a Question" bar could be moved it would stop 90% of the ridiculous questions. I'm sure most of the fools that abuse this site only press that button out of curiosity & once they are in they just "muck up" because they have no intention of coming back & couldn't care less about being banned.

    ole hipster

A-hh-h-h-h-a person after my own heart...thank you for yoru response!....(:
    Bob/PKB

I kinda miss those people and their questions.

One day, not too long ago, there was a green bar near the top of my screen that said "Ask A Question" or something.  Clicked on it and here I am.

It is alarming, the number of inappropriate, pointless, and crude questions that have appeared over the past few weeks.  What are the conditions for particpating here anyway?  I was given nothing to read and sign.

One would think the people signed up here would understand the nature of the beast.  How is this site "patrolled" anyway?  Who's the creator of AKA?  Where are the guidelines that we should be using?

I'll help however I can.   First step would be to skip the q's that are inappropriate or crude. I can do that.

    ole hipster

Thank you my friend for your feedback...guess I'm not alone in my way of thinking....(:
    Flip

I think you might find that many of us found this site because of the "green bar" (mine was blue).
    Bob/PKB

I'm so glad it popped up!
    itsmee

My bar was blue too, flip. I wonder if it means something?

At one time someone suggested a "test" before you enter this site. Scared the pie outta me at that time. Now, I'd be very willing to take a test. I want those turkeys off this site. It will go downhill if they stay. We need someone to edit them out. I'd volunteer but by computer skills are lacking ... hipster,

would you do it?  Contact the Contact people.  (bottom of the page)

    itsmee

correction: but MY computer skills are lacking
    ole hipster

I don't believe that contacting the people will help too much..............we are pawns (:

empty barrels make the most noise.. i did suggest at one point to impose an "iq' test  to gain acess perhaps that might have helped or even on of those scrambled word test where you must decipher the word .  ithink we all agree most of the questions are down right silly, i guess we do have the option of leaving in which defecting helps us not. personally i do enjoy the intelectual as well as the funny questions as well.. as for me i'll be sticking it out at least for now..

    ole hipster

You are the sweetest person ever!...(:

    itsmee

I keep seeing this saying "empty barrels make the most noise." I don't understand that. An empty barrel just sits there and makes no noise at all. I sure hope to get an answer.

try throwing a full barrel down an ally!

OLe Hipster I agree with you 100%. So many Questions dont make sense and many ask the sameQuestions over and over again and many are downright gross. Many people that are no longer here at least had interesting Questions and it was fun, There are still some interesting Questions but far less though. I think we need to ignore the questions that dont make sense and are gross, then these people wont come back. I myself have posted three Questions, that no one answered, the latest was today. I am wondering why. I know if Leroy was still here that would never happen. I wont be here that much anymore myself.

    ole hipster

    Well spoken my friend.....(:
    mycatsmom

I would have answered your question if I had seen it. You're nice. I hope you don't leave . I miss Leroy too.

I like that AkaQA is as open as it is because I know the crew trying to cope with the cascade of Questions and Answers understand our situation and because all this is new for them too, it is challenging to work out the bugs in a system that looks like the java script-Python nightmare of the century. I know those folks are pulling their hair out trying to keep this site on-line and running. And dealing with the data logs and multi-user data base…I am awe struck just thinking about it all.

    ole hipster

Try being a tad more awestruck concerning the revenue this is obviously pulling in for somebody....someone is profiting off of this site/forum./...it certainly is not us (the folks who are here with regularity answering questions) nothing is as it seems at times...do you not agree???
    itsmee

It started out really small. And now ... Look at the ads!

mcm - if she quit before the tornado, how would I have know that her house was in danger?
Colleen seemed to enjoy hot discussions. They were interesting reading but I usually stayed out. I agreed quietly with her on most things.

I’m clueless regarding internet financing today. In the 1980s I had a little web site with 500 members paying $20 each annually. It paid the bills. Upkeep was 2 hours a day, lots of shareware and flakey e-mail service. Ran ok for two years and sold it.

The "Ask a Question" button on the tool bar is a link to this site. It had to have been made available by the administrators of this site. Unfortunately it is mistaken by many well meaning people as a part of the web site they are on at the time, and they think it will send a question to that site.

I have on a few occasions replied to those that listed their email address (using a generic address of my own), especially if I felt the person's inquiry was important or critical. To date, I have never received a reply back leading me to believe most are not real computer savvy.

    ole hipster

You've got it covered!....(: Bless your heart Mr. Wilson!!!!)...as always...the ole hipster
    mycatsmom

prob the reason it prints all those lued, distateful comments and questions, is that it's all automated; there's no one minding the helm.

don't you guys remember that our moderator ( Colleen)  quit ? Maybe that's why it's gone downhill, b/c she used to take off all these lurid, distasteful questions before they hit the screen.

    ole hipster

You got a point there swetheart!
    itsmee

Colleen quit? I didn't hear anything about it. I do know she quit twice before but this time she just left because the tornado was coming too close to her house.
I think she's just resting up from running to higher ground.
Maybe things will get better when she returns.
I wish we could do something in the meantime.
    I feel very powerless.
    mycatsmom

No. She definately quit before the tornado. Maybe she quit b/c she got a lot of aggravation from so many users. It's a thankless job.

Most are school kids wanting to stir things up and see what kind of response they will get , I've been reporting them and not answering them. I haven't been on here much, maybe when the snow starts to fly again you will see more of me........lol

    mycatsmom

I've been complaining too,but using the ''contact us '' button . Adn by using the '' report abuse '' click on. No one ever answers my complaints . It's all automated. ''They don't give a shit '' , as my late husb, Joe, used to say .
    itsmee

    mcm: they answer my complaints.
