How to increase the fuel economy on my 2008 Honda Accord LX which only gives 16 MPG?

According to the owner's manual, the fuel economy of that car should be 23 MPG for city travel. But I got only about 16 MPG since I bought the second hand car from Carmax in end of January this year.

START WITH A TUNE UP AND TIRE PRESSURE CHECK
Are you kidding?? My Magnum HEMI gets better than that and its a racing engine.

I would check on the weight of your right foot..
Definitely get good tune up, check wheel alignment to be sure the car is rolling not being "pushed" check tyre pressure, on the open road or in town hold as steady and constant speed as you can, Don`t roar off from the traffic lights take a few second to get to cruising speed. Don`t bolt up to red traffic light and have to brake hard.Drive as though you have egg shells under the accellerator.

    I'd trade it in.
