NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Yes, the Yankees owe Alex Rodriguez a ton of money.

But in case you forgot, so do the Texas Rangers, who traded Rodriguez to New Yorkin Feb. 2004. After playing for the Mariners from 1994-2000, A-Rod signed a 10-year, $252 million deal with Texas, at the time the richest contract in sports history.

The 14-time All-Star is expected to receive a suspension as soon as Friday for this connection to the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug scandal. He could be suspended for the remainder of this season and next season, or receive a lifetime ban from the league.

If Rodriguez is indeed banned for life, the Yankees will likely be freed from the roughly $100 million that he’s owed until his contract expires in 2017.

Texas, on the other hand, would still be on the hook, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The club still owes the three-time Most Valuable Player approximately $40 million in deferred money from the initial contract that A-Rod signed in 2000, according to the newspaper. That figure will eventually grow to almost $50 million.

The Rangers will pay the 38-year-old from 2016-2025, according to the Dallas Morning News.

My mind boggled with the numbers as I read the article I have copied here for you.  It appears Mr. R is worth a very pretty penny.  Let's hope he can actually make good on those big contracts.
