Touted as being the encyclopedia of crystals, Love is in the Earth is certainly a comprehensive guide to the metaphysical properties of hundreds of crystals, from Acanthite to Zunyite. The beginning of the book is devoted to crystal configurations (star, cluster, tumbled, etc.), acquiring your crystals, programming, cleansing, applications and a dictionary. The middle portion describes the various metaphysical properties of the crystals themselves, including astrological sign, vibrational number, physical attributes, and more. The names of the stones, listed alphabetically, and their corresponding pages is located in the table of contents, rather than in the index. There are no photographs of the stones – one needs to purchase Melody’s other books to find these.

Love is in the Earth can be a valuable reference for anyone interested in the many properties of crystals. However, don’t expect to read about a particular crystal, like what you read, and then expect to acquire that crystal. Many of the crystals in the book are hard to come by, if not altogether impossible to locate. It would be more conducive to you to purchase a crystal, pendant, cluster or jewelry and then go back to the book and look it up, thus letting you know why you were drawn to that particular piece (or why it was drawn to you), since many of us purchase, find or are given crystals as gifts because they happen to be what we needed at the time.
