Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
The punishment for one who takes bribery, one who gives it and one who communicates between them is a curse and expulsion from the mercy of Allah by the tongue of the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam).
Imam Ahmad and others narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah and Thawbaan (Radiya Allahu Anhum) that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) cursed the bribe giver, its taker and the one who communicates between them both.
Bribery is one of the major sins. It is condemned and forbidden in the Book of Allah. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {(They like to) listen to falsehood, to devour anything forbidden….}[5: 42]. The scholars of Tafseer said, 'That is bribery' . Allah also Says (interpretation of meaning): {And eat up not one another's property unjustly (in any illegal way e.g. stealing, robbing, deceiving, etc.), nor give bribery to the rulers (judges before presenting your cases) that you may knowingly eat up a part of the property of others sinfully.}[2: 188].
In short, the punishment of the bribe-taker, the bribe-giver and the intermediary between them is great, if they do not repent to Allah from it. This is because, bribery causes much corruption in the society.
Allah knows best.
