the best way to train your dog is to let it off the lead and call back with a bit of cheese and let it go again and call back again with i bit cheese and keep repeating this until you are sure he/she will come back but keep the cheese for a couple of weeks until you it will come back and always make a fuss when the dog comes back by saying good boy?girl good luck

Many years ago, I had a dachschund (weiner dog) named Ernie (and a parakeet named Burt). My BF did not like Ernie and thought Ernie was ill-mannered. My BF got himself a walker hound and named him Rudy. We took our dogs to obedience school and Ernie was the star. Rudy was the dunce. (Don't get me wrong....I liked Rudy).
One thing I vaguely remember is that we started with our dogs ON their leashes. I walked to the end of the leash (the dog sitting, and no, it wasn't a great distance....maybe six feet), said, "Ernie, come!" and gently tugged on the leash to get the dog to come to me. He was praised when he made the short trip to me....I don't remember plying him with treats....my approval was supposed to be enough. It was, and yours will be, too.
When Ernie responded to the command, through repetition of the exercise, the tug became unnecessary, I dropped the leash and continued with the exercise. The distance increased over time, and the leash disappeared. The command was always "Ernie, come". Teaching him to sit was always, "Ernie, sit." You get the idea.
Bottom line.....it takes a lot of patience and practice to teach a dog to follow a command. There is no guarantee the dog will come just because you say, "(Dog's name), come!" - especially if the distraction is more than the dog can ignore.
