Windows

Open Skype, and then click "Tools" in the main program window. Select "Options" to view your Skype settings.

Select the "General Settings" tab in the left pane, and then clear the "Start Skype when I start Windows" check box by clicking on it.

Click the "Save" button to prevent Skype from loading at the next startup.
Mac

Click the "Preferences" icon on the Mac Dock, and then click "Accounts" under the "System" heading. Select your user name from the left column of the window, and then select the "Login Items" tab on the right.

Click "Skype" in the list of startup programs, and then click the "-" button below the list.

Press the "Command" and "Q" keys simultaneously to close the window.
