my grandson is coming to stay with me from arizona to warwick rhode island this summer. he is thinking of going into sound engineering for a career he is 16 years old. what could i do for him this summer to see if this is the path he wants to take is there a company that would take him under their wing and show him the ropes?

I find it great that you want to help your grandson to get some orientation!
I guess there must be courses/workshops open to the general public in sound engineering, no? Maybe there is some college or university offering summer courses, too. Otherwise any recording studio, television chain or radio station would be the place to ask at.
And something else: tell your grandson to make some kind of application letter. It's cool you help him find where to send it to, but he should be applying himself, not you for him.
