Best not to cut the stalk since the corms get nutrients from the leaves during growing season. To remove florets that are no longer attractive, pull gently or snip with small clippers and remove without damaging the stalk.

If you want to have cut gladiolus for an arrangement, find stalks that have top florets blooming. When cutting, leave at least 4 leaves on stalk to feed the corms. Cut at an angle and place in warm water, then change water every two days while displaying cuttings.

At time of first frost in fall, dig up plants and cut stems off just above corms. Dry your corms for 3 weeks in place that will not subject them to frost. Sprinkle with Seven Dust and store in cool dry place 40 to 45 degrees that is airy.
