It may not be the doctors. It could be the insurance company denying the meds.

True, that could be. However, Blue Cross and other insurances will pay or partially pay for some pain meds. Who knows how this will change in the U.S. Huh?

I just can not and will not believe that doctors are knowingly denying pain meds to a cancer patient unless proof is given. Then the person has a right to have the doctor investigated for inhumane practices if he/she is simply denying pain meds for no good reason.

From what I am becoming enlightened to is in the future it will be age discriminatory. youg and sick receives best of care as they heal and become productive citizens, old and retired gets sick it becomes a liability to the system and allowed to pass. However, even in this scenario I doubt they would allow a person to remain in pain if there is a medicine available, I don't even think Obamacare will be that insensitive, time will tell. Death Panels based on age, severity is a fact! This I believe.

I THINK THAT'S AN EXCELLENT COMMENT, COLLEEN.
There are people who would have to spend their lives in bed if they were not offered the correct medication. (I do not have Cancer) After a lot of MRI's and x-rays, the doctors finally granted me some relief from pain. But still ... some pharmacists look at me and roll their eyes. My pain is invisible.

Vinny: DEATH PANELS! That is scary.
I wonder if the DEATH PANEL doctors provide a black pill for those who do not fit in to their SHALL LIVE requirements?

I agree Vinny. They would just simply put people with incurable diseases to sleep rather than waste pain meds on them. That is Obamacare.

itsmee, when they roll their eyes at you, call them on it. Then report them for being insensitive. Their profession demands that they do not treat customers poorly.

Kevorkian if still alive would make a fortune with Obamacare.

Obamacare is working hand in hand with SS. They are running out of money for SS so need to decrease the pollution. Best way to make SS last is to remove as many as they can who are drawing from it now. Keep fighting Obamacare. The people do not realize just how deep this inhumane law goes.

Colleen: Actually, it just happened once. I told my prescribing doctor. He gave me a fist full of medical papers to hand over to the NEW pharmacists. They just smiled when I handed over the papers and didn't even take them. I never liked it there and we moved shortly afterward.

OK itsmee, as long as you know you do not have to be treated that way.

Many doctors don't believe in pain meds. They usually are ok with pain meds for Cancer patients. Opiods (pain meds) are watched like a hawk by the DEA.  I have pain from a neck and back injury and my doctor has been pretty good about treating my pain. ('m in CA) If you are still wondering about this issue, please post back. (I know it's been TWO years) It is illegal for doctors to not treat patients who have pain.  Best, Rosescantina

In California, Hospice provides an easy out for those who have a short time to live. In Oregon you can apply and get treated quite humanely also. These services provide death with dignity to those patients who request this treatment when their conditional is terminal.

I cannot say enough good about California Hospice. They cared for my mother during her last illness. They were skilled, kind, and understanding of my feelings. I imagine it would be the same in Oregon.
