Use white eggs. White eggs hold the coloring better than others obviously. It doesn't matter if you buy them or get them from your chicken coop.

Fill the coffee cups halfway with vinegar. You are doing this so that when you drop the egg in, the egg is completely submerged into the dyeing solution.

After fulling the cups with vinegar, drop the food coloring in the cups. It usually didn't matter how much you dropped in. You can even experiment by mixing the colors. I made a bunch of gray eggs with black dye one time as a child.

After your dyes are prepared, it is time to hard boil your eggs. To do this correctly start off with eggs that have no visible cracks. It's also a good idea to bring your eggs to room temperature before cooking. By doing this the eggs are less likely to crack while being cooked. Place the eggs in the pot with enough cold water to just cover the top of the eggs. Bring the water to a rapid boil and then immediately remove the eggs from the burner and cover tightly. After 20 minutes, drain the water from the eggs and run cold water over them. Let them cool for 10 minutes and then drain. The eggs are now ready to be dried and dyed.

Drop an egg into each cup of dye. This is where you start getting creative. The longer you leave the egg in the dye, the darker color the egg will be. You will have to check the eggs every few minutes until they are the color you want them to be. Then when they are perfect, set the eggs on an old bath towel to dry.

Once the eggs are dry, you can choose to leave them the way they are or you can make designs on them with non-toxic markers. This is the most fun, especially with children.

Once the eggs are completed, put the eggs in the refrigerator until you are ready to hide them! Once the kids find all the Easter eggs, you can then use the eggs to make deviled eggs for Easter dinner!
