      Check carefully if there are strings attached, e.g. subscription to a magazine or membership.

        Be cautious when you receive a small prize or check in the mail.   It sounds like another mousetrap.

          It first of all depends upon where the check came from.  There are "come-on" ploys being used by companies, banks etc....that send you a so-called check but after you read the fine print of any literature that came with the check you'll find that you have to do "something" to earn it for real...the best way to find out would be to take it to your bank, see if you can cash it or deposit it in your account and see if it clears...(:
