Offer your condolences. Try and spend as much time as you can with your friend. After a person dies their friends and family gather around and offer their condolences and they usually say "If there is anything we can can do just let us know"
Unfortunately that is where it usually ends. People get busy with their own lives and kind of forget about their friend or family member who is left to deal with their loss alone.
The nicest thing to do is be there for your friend. Often they want to talk about their loss as they are struggling to move on with their own life.
Most people will try and avoid the subject of the death as they just are unsure of what to do or say. Try not to avoid the topic, most of the time they will be glad you did talk to them about their father.
Good Luck and I know you will do the right thing. You sound like a very caring person and the world needs more of people like you.
Does anyone else have some advice?
