Both electric baseboard heaters and space heaters can be dangerous. Plug your electric space heater directly into a wall outlet if possible, or use a heavy-duty extension cord of at least 14-gauge wire if you must use an extension cord. Extension cords hooked up to a space heater can overheat, causing a fire hazard. In addition, make sure your heater has a tip-over safety switch that turns it off automatically if it is accidentally knocked over.
Do not place baseboard heaters close to draperies or other flammable objects that hang above it. Position electric baseboard heaters at least 3/4 of an inch above the floor or carpet in your room to allow cool air to be inducted into the unit effectively.
