I don't know why you would gain weight, unless you increased your caloric intake dramatically and cut down on the amount of activity you currently enjoy.
Keep a close watch on yourself. As long as you can maintain with your diet and exercise, you can avoid insulin. My dad had adult-onset diabetes and took pills for it. I had it gestationally and had to give myself shots. NOT something to aspire to for the rest of one's life (but thank God there is treatment available). Fortunately, although I am more at-risk for diabetes now, the gestational "disappeared" as soon as the baby was born!
Your main lifestyle adjustment should be with your diet. Bet of luck to you. Take care of yourself.
