What is Megaplier?
Pennsylvania began selling tickets for the Mega Millions multi-state jackpot game on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010. The first drawing for Pennsylvania players was Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010.
All previously Powerball-only jurisdictions, including Pennsylvania, that now sell Mega Millions also offer a multiplier feature, called Megaplier, which was previously offered only in Texas. Prior to the Mega Millions drawing, the Megaplier number - ranging from two to four - is randomly selected. The Megaplier option multiplies all prizes other than jackpot and second-tier prizes by the drawing's Megaplier number. Megaplier costs an extra $1 per play.
The Megaplier number is drawn in Texas by a random number generator shortly before the Mega Millions drawing is conducted in Atlanta on Tuesday and Friday nights.
