Oxycontin is one of the most dangerous drugs out there if it is used in a manner other than that which it was designed for. Oxycontin is an extended release form of the analgesic drug oxycodone which is prescribed for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. It is a semi-syntheic opioid derived from opium and its mechanism of action is most similar to morphine. It stimulates opioid receptors in the brain which can cause a person to feel euphoric, or pleasurable. You may feel warm, itchy, lightheaded, dizzy, and sedated. It can also make you nauseous, with the possibility of vomitting. Oxycontin abuse can leads to liver, kidney, and muscle damage, along with anorexia and possibly death. Oxycontin, when abused, is similar to drugs like heroin, i.e. You get addicted quickly and find yourself always wanting more and more of the drug to get the initial effects that got you addicted.
