    So, as Colleen stated, many employers do not have to pay, providing they are paying your retirement plan.  This does not really go by a particular "job" as you asked, more by how the employer has set up the retirement benefits. 

    Companies that have a retirement plan (401K) can be exempt from withholding SS payments from paychecks and from paying your share into SS. The private sector (small business owners) do not have to pay SS if they create their own retirement plan. Some government jobs do not have to pay SS. They already have retirement pay paid for by the tax payers.
