Why does Watchtower May 15, 2011 (page 30) say Absalom's HAIR was caught in a fork of a tree?

I have consulted 6 or 7 translations (including the New World) @ 2Samuel 18:9. They all say Absalom's HEAD was caught in the big tree. I remember when I was a little boy, my grandmother taught me that he was caught by his hair. But I can't find a translation that says that. Even grandma's translation (AV) says head. Where did she get the idea it was his hair? It seems to be a common tradition in Christendom.

Maybe, his head was too big or his hair too long.
