When you log into your online iTunes store account, purchasing songs from there will download them directly to your iTunes library. Downloading songs from any other location will not download them directly to iTunes. But double-clicking the songs will automatically copy them to your iTunes library.
To access the iTunes store go to your iTunes program on your computer, iPod Touch, iPad, etc. and click the link on the sidebar. You will need an Apple ID account to log in. To open an iTunes account, see here. (Note: iTunes store is only available in select countries).
