      1. According to the traditional account, the original flag was made in June 1776, when a small committee — including George Washington, Robert Morris and relative George Ross — visited Betsy and discussed the need for a new American flag.

        The man credited with designing the current 50 star American flag is Robert G. Heft. He was 17 years old at the time and did the flag design as a high school class project while living with his grandparents in Ohio. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_United_States
