    how is it legal for the british government to charge vat on fuel tax that we pay, taxing tax surely this cant be legal?.

      Well, since you have no written constitution, any law passed by your parliament is legal, including taxes on your taxes. Enjoy. Oh, and since you have no organization like our Supreme Court to look at questions like the one you are raising, there is no way for redress until a new government is put in place. Hmm, maybe our US Constitution doesn't look all that bad after all.
