Gasoline density depends upon the ratio of organic compounds called hydrocarbons, measured in grams, to the total amount of fuel in the sample, measured in milliliters; it typically lies in the range between 0.71 to 0.77 g/mL. Calculating gasoline density allows you to estimate calorific values of a particular gasoline type. Moreover, you will need to know the density of different grades of gasoline you plan to mix in the gas tank---fuel types with significantly different densities may not mix right away, potentially causing engine problems.
