They are herbivores and eat just about any plant material. This includes the veggies in the garden, or just grasses in fields. They do much damage to the agricultural industry, from mechanical breakdowns caused by wheels and axles being broken, to fractured legs of livestock. They have a ecological niche, but not on the farm! As mammals, they can also harbor rabies which can be transferred to livestock, etc.
