Just as humans have a higher self, so do the Trees. Sometimes called a Tree Spirit, but the proper term is Dryad. The Greek refered to oak nymphs as dryads. Nowadays dryad has come to be used for all tree spirits in general and the word 'dryad' can be found in many languages. But most importantly: the Trees themselves recognize this term and become alert upon hearing the word 'Dryad'.
The Dryad consciousness is connected to a group of trees of the same species. A forest example may clarify this. Imagine a forest with three species of trees: 100 beech trees, 150 oak trees and 50 hazel trees. There will be just three Dryads in this wood: 1 (one) beech Dryad, 1 (one) oak Dryad, and 1 (one) hazel Dryad. If you lay your hand on one beech, all beeches in the forest will feel your touch, because they all belong to the same one Dryad consciousness.
How large a Dryad is (how many trees are part of the same Dryad consciousness), is usually determined by geographic borders: a forest, a river, a mountain range, etc.
