Oophorectomy /?o?.?f??r?kt?mi/ (from Greek ?οφ?ρος, ?ophóros, "egg-bearing" + ?κτομ?, ektom?, "a cutting out of") is the surgicalremoval of an ovary or ovaries. The surgery is also called ovariectomy, but this term has been traditionally used in basic science research to describe the surgical removal of ovaries in laboratory animals.
Estradiol is a medication used in Hormone Replacement Therapy, and its use was discontinued in the UK in 2011.
