Oophorectomy /?o?.?f??r?kt?mi/ (from Greek ?οφ?ρος, ?ophóros, "egg-bearing" + ?κτομ?, ektom?, "a cutting out of") is the surgicalremoval of an ovary or ovaries. The surgery is also called ovariectomy, but this term has been traditionally used in basic science research to describe the surgical removal of ovaries in laboratory animals.
Estradiol is a medication used in Hormone Replacement Therapy, and its use was discontinued in the UK in 2011.
I don't have THE answer for you, but it would make sense to test animals who were NOT going to be giving birth to offspring until long term effects were evaluated....if it makes sense to use animals as test subjects in the first place.
