Kentucky's 5th Congressional District is located in the heart of Appalachia in southeastern Kentucky. Located within the district are the cities of Pikeville, Middlesborough and Somerset. Boyd, Carter, Rowan, Elliot, Lawrence, Martin, Johnson, Morgan, Magofflin, Floyd, Pike, Knott, Letcher, Perry, Breathitt, Lee, Owsley, Clay, Jackson, Laurel, Knox, Bell, Whitley, McCreary, Rockcastle, Lincoln, Pulaski and Wayne counties are included in this district.
