highlight what you want to delete by placing the cursor in the small box to the left of the subject/sender when you are displaying your "In Box". After checking each box of mail you want to delete,  move your cursor. To the word DELETE and click. Respond "ok", when asked to confirm.

Your can delete all the spam at once. Put your cursor to the right of the spam option (other options are in box, trash, folders), and a trash can icon should become visible. Click on that and respond "ok" to confirm. Do the same to empty trash.
