Mycatsmom, surely from DNA evidence the parents can be identified so the offspring could know his/her parents? The difficulty arisis when a woman has sex with multiple partners and may not be able to identify the putative father.

Years ago, I worked at a "family support" office, division of the district attorney. It was NOT uncommon for the pregnant one to have multiple suspects as the sperm donor.
