touché
From the French, meaning, to touch.
It's a term from the sport of fencing which refers to touching the opponent with the tip of a foil, sabre or sword, and indicating that one has succeeded in getting past their guard.
The word is often used to say "That remark hit home!", meaning on target and hurtful.
The hurtful remark could be a tactless blunder, or intentional.
A much loved tactic of political opponents.
Can also refer to a successful reposte in argument or debate, when a counter argument deftly undermines the other's point.
