Yes. High blood pressure medications may cause several side effects in patients. A dry, persistent cough is an adverse event that requires discontinuation of the drug. Medications that may induce cough are the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, such as lisinopril, enalapril and ramipril, and angiotensin II receptor blockers, such as candesartan, olmesartan and losartan. The patient should be switched to another class of high blood pressure medications.

Julie - do not take too much notice of what is said on the internet medical advise - 1 out 10 entries ( in fact I may have got this wrong being only 1 out of 10 correct would you believe) have been found incorrect by the USA and UK health organisations. Although when you speak of ACE inhibitors you are probably right but beta blockers are usually the first line of medication for hypertension but it does depend on the causative factors - Ace hibitors and betablockers both can cause breathing difficulties not sure about the cough. These being two very different types of drugs. Side effects of these drugs are usually enclosed with the medication.
