What type of mower is it? I know John Deere has gauges with instructions that you can buy on how to level your mower deck.

My personal method involves the use of grazing animals. However I have had the mower problem too. I found that my yard was not graded flat and level which required lots of top soil added to the yard along with weeding and then reseeding and some additional washed sand. After a while it started to look like a golf course.  But then I noticed that the trees were showing a lot more roots as a result of fertilizing the lawn around the trees. I tried to keep the emerging roots under control by adding more dirt around the base of trees. Then I picked up an odd hose attachment designed to press a 3 foot long rod into the ground to water and fertilize trees...so the trees don't root up the lawn around them.  So I see now that the lawn and tre game should have been started when I was a kid...but I'm near 70 now and turned yard maintenance over to a bunch of animals.
