Expert is right on the money. Hope you used 5/4 wood instead of 2 x 6. Less warp-age and splintering down the road.

I would highly recommend Thompson's water sealer when your wood has "cured" sufficiently (about 6 months).  I used this on a wooden fence every other year, and applied it with a portable pump sprayer.  It kept my fence looking brand new; the wood stays brown instead of turning gray and splintering.  You won't be sorry you used it!

Safe your money and build a new deck, good for 20yr with no treatment.
