    A virgin (or maiden) originally meant a woman who has never had sexual intercourse. Virginity is the state of being a virgin. It is derived from the Latin virgo, which means "sexually inexperienced woman".
    Tearing or rupturing of the hymen does not constitute losing your virginity unless its cause is from sexual intercourse.
    I had heard once that riding a horse can cause that...not sure if it is true or not.
