    Why is there a D in Fridge but not in Refrigerator?

    Fridge, originated in the 1920s, is the informal shortening of the brand name Frigidaire, who were refrigerator manufactures. Frigidaire and refrigerator sound enough alike, that the short version 'fridge' became synonymous with refrigerator.
