Advertising companys realize that one of the primary reasons people buy stuff is because of "impulse". This impulse is generally triggered by emotion (emotional appeal). Ads are design to affect your senses, after all this why most people respond to anything. If something appeals to your looks, sex appeal, how you feel and especially how people will view you after you use this product. When you see of hear this, your impulse is "I need some of that".
