You're too young to have a boyfriend. I would say the same thing to a 14 year old girl. Wait until you're 16. 16 is an appropriate age for dating. There is no easy way to meet other gays at your age unless there is an organization in your area where teen gays can go to meet each other. I've been a lesbian all my life. I did not meet my first girlfriend until I was 20 years old. Be patient. There's no hurry. Relationships are hard, even harder when you're gay and people still exist who are against the sexuality. You will need nerves of steel to withstand the verbal and maybe even physical abuse you will get from them. I hate to say this but at your age, keep it to yourself. Do not let on to anyone other than your family if you believe they can handle it. People can not be trusted to not hurt or kill the different. It happens. Be safe, please.

As you know Colleen I live in the BIBLE BELT... But the High School and the students their have been extremely accepting of teens who have come out. I am so proud of all of the kids there... The "gay" teens for being brave enough to be who they are and the "striaght" teens for going against centeries of biggotry and respecting those who do come out. They are just all teens...

Amen! Be smart, be safe, be patient, be strong. Good luck to you. Look into organizations for gay youth to assist you. Thank God they exist now; they didn't when I was your age. You're not alone and always know that. Do be patient though, 14 is indeed to young.

@ Jenn, I worry more about the adults who will give him a hard time, not his peers. Most schools are protecting the teen students now especially after those 14 boys killed themselves 2 years ago because they couldn't take the hate and harassment they faced at school. In a matter of a month and a half, 14 boys dead. The youngest was only 12 years old. :(

I'm a firm believer in "born gay". But I also acknowledge that puberty can cause emotions in a young person they do not quite understand. This has been known to cause a young male to think he's gay. Given a year or two though, when everything inside him settles down, he finds out he's not. Be sure before you act. That's my other best advice to you.
