I have never built a laptop but I have built close to 100 desktops for friends and family, building a desktop is probably one of the easiest projects I have ever done, yet people think you are a genius.. Slap a few parts together and plug it in, i can build a desktop in about an hour assuming I have all the parts in front of me.. Now, getting it all working is the mastery- Software is a PITA.. Especially Microsoft.
laptops I don't know about, I would think that its cheaper buying than building. The reason I quit building desktops is firstly, they are becoming obsolete and secondly, it became much cheaper to buy prebuilt.
