To write a letter you need a word processor application. Like Open Office, Word, or even something as simple as Notepad. Most chances are one of them is already installed on your computer. When you start the application, you'll get a blank page to type into. Then you'll be able to save it and print it. Do a search, if the applications don't have an icon on the desktop, then they are still saved in your Programs Folder.
