When removing from a toaster, why is a toasted bagel so much hotter than plain bread ?

It's thicker and it takes more cooking to brown it and warm in through, thus it is hotter.

The Jews invented bagels (at least I am giving them the credit) and they meticulously made sure it had the density to absorb the heat, and the foresight to anticipate when, and if, the microwave oven or toaster would eventually be invented.  I must say it's one of the better Jewish investions.  I could do without the nuclear bomb.
