Loved the article on how to build a bunkie without need for a building permit and love the magazine. Can you confirm that a loft as described in the Ontario Building Code does not contribute to the total square footage of a building for the purposes of a building permit or in the case of the bunkie an exemption from needing a building permit - Thanks
The loft would have a set of stairs to it or a ladder. If the footprint of a cottage is 700 square feet and the loft above is 300 square feet, does the Ontario Building Code recognize the sqaure footage of the cottage to be 700 sqaure feet or 1000 sqaure feet. The bunkie article showed a loft but classified the sqaure footage as 100 sqaure feet which was the footprint of the bunkie only. I am having some challenges getting a building permit as I have to be within a maximum sqaure footage in an area zoned recreational and I am being told that a loft adds to the sqaure footage - thanks for help
