    how long does tobacco stay in a persons system?

    All their miserable lives.

    Tobacco takes seven years to clear your lungs.  I imagine it would take several months before the cravings stopped.  However; the sooner to quit the longer you live.  Believe when I say, " Someday, you will be on oxygen on one to two liters.  No more no less and you will be ashy and asking for more air.  And there will be nothing anyone can do.   If you are on the patch, do not smoke; you can give yourself a heart attack.  You have to wean off tobacco slowly.  Good luck.
