    10 people @ a banquet shake hands. How many handshakes went around?

    This is a Question that has 4 different answers. Here they are; A)100 B)20 C)45 D)90

    Now this Question needs to be answered, because I need to know if I am right! ;) My partner and I have different answers and I know that I am right. But I need to prove it to him that I am right. So can someone please help me in proving him wrong........Thank you - LOL

      MY ANSWER IS 5 BECAUSE THE QUESTION CLEARLY STATES 10 PEOPLE SHAKE HANDS NOT THAT 10 PEOPLE SHAKE HANDS WITH EVERY OTHER PERSON. THIS BEING THE CASE IF 10 PEOPLE SHAKE HANDS THE YOU HAVE 5 HANDSHAKES. IT IS CALLED LOOKING OUTSIDE THE BOX OR AVOIDING THE OBVIOUS>

          Each of the 10 people shakes hands with 9 others. If you multiply that, you are counting each handshake double. Therefore, the calculation is 10 x 9 / 2.
