    What is the optimum size of iron grate for an open woodburning (logs) fireplace?

    Depends on the size of your fireplace. Most grates are about 16" to 24" depending on the size of the fireplace. The bigger the fireplace, the bigger the logs and the bigger the grate needs to be. I'm sure there are even bigger grates that can be custom made.
