      Empathy is the capacity to recognize and, to some extent, share feelings (such as sadness or happiness) that are being experienced by another person.

        Empathy is a feeling you have for another person's loss but you're not going through the loss yourself.  For example, when your friend's pet dies, you have an empathy for the loss because you might have lost a pet before, hence, you know the pain..
