I don't know about that chemical, either, but it shouldn't affect those around. If, for example, you eat or touch something poisonous, the one who gets intoxicated is you, noone else. There are no germs or viruses jumping over from one person to another.
What is true is that someone suffering from contamination with a toxic substance will affect those close to him emotionally and psychologically. Nobody wants to see their loved ones in such trouble.
