      National Building Code requires all railings around a deck be 34-36 inches high. Balusters must be less than 4 inches apart. This applies to stair railings as well.

        The height of the railing is normaly around the 3ft mark, there can be exceptions to this depending on the usage for the deck and the type of railing "fill in". By that I mean if it is easily climbed by children make it higher.
